Maybe I should send a mail to some of my African friends so that they can lift the curse I've got with bikes since I'm in Australia ... While I was delighted to have found my new companion on the very first day here in Perth, imagine my despair when I got a flat tyre after less than 40 kilometers !
Apart from that, the weather is fine (though windy as hell), Perth seems to be as boring as it already was 3 years ago, and I got all the equipment that was on my list (knife and other cutlery, tent, mattress, etc etc. Should be enough.
I met :
- Matthew, who's the very first person I know through Couchsurfing (network for travellers willing to find a place to stay with locals) and despite he couldn't come back home before 9pm due to a tough job, we soon found out that we shared the same appetite for cheesy horror movies with roaring sharks or crocs, over the top plots and the delightful Fawlty Towers TV serie ! We didn't mention the war, of course :)
- Peter, who's a gardener. I was lying on the grass reading a book when that bloke started to chat with me about his childhood in the Netherlands, which ended when his parents decided to move overseas to get nearer to their daughters living in Tasmania. Also, he showed me a grey mark on the side of his nose due to a graft that was made necessary to fight against skin cancer. Seems like both the wind and the sun are killers here in WA ...
Time to set off now, and get tanned at last !
